Michael Sragow, noted film critic, in his essay entitled "An Art Wedded to Truth" in Atlantic Monthly (Oct. 1994), describes Ray as the “most sublime movie maker to emerge since Renoir and De Sica.’’ Then he goes on to add a carefully noted epithet — “Unlike the two European masters, Satyajit Ray made ‘great’ and ‘near great’ films throughout his long career producing some thirty-seven features, documentaries and short films, an impressive accomplishment by any measure or standard.”
